Dry feet are the worst. Sometimes, it’s not even about the embarrassment of wearing sandals or walking around barefoot, it can be worse when you are trying to put your socks on and the skin catches on your socks. Makes you cringe a bit just thinking about it. Chances are though, if you are here reading this you definitely are having the same problems right now.
“The best way to get rid of dry skin on your feet, and proactively prevent it from happening in the future, is proper exfoliation and moisturization. Careful use of a pumice stone can also help to remove dry skin and calluses from the feet,” stated Dr. Sarah Campbell, board-certified dermatologist with Forefront Dermatology. “Start by soaking your feet in warm water to soften the dead skin. If using a pumice stone, wet it with warm water and gently rub the stone over the rough skin in a circular motion. Rinse the dead skin off your feet and apply an exfoliating lotion containing an alpha-hydroxy acid, such as ammonium lactate or AmLactin. Beta-hydroxy acids such as salicylic acid, found in CeraVe SA, can also be used. Cover the feet with a moisturizing layer and ointment barrier, such as white petroleum jelly or Vaseline. Cover with socks for overnight treatment.”
