As much as we would like the inevitable to hold off, some of the earliest signs of aging starts happening to individuals in their late 20’s or early 30’s. Unfortunately, these signs tend to go unnoticed and unaddressed until they become more substantial.
Here are four early signs of aging, along with preventative techniques you can do to fight back:
1. Fine Lines and Wrinkles
According to Dr. Erik Alexander, board-certified dermatologist with Forefront Dermatology, “the first noticeable sign of aging are fine lines and wrinkles. Fine lines are small, shallow wrinkles that tend to become most noticeable at the outer corners of the eyes – also known as laughter lines or crow´s feet. Wrinkles on the forehead are triggered by facial expressions and tend to become deeper as time goes by. The smaller, vertical lines between the brows are caused by frowning. As skin matures, there is a loss in elasticity causing loss of volume and resulting in sagging skin and wrinkles.” A great way to counteract fine lines and wrinkles is with neurotoxin treatments including Botox and Dysport.
2. Dark Circles/Eye Bags
With adulthood comes less sleep and more environmental stressors causing the common issue of dark circles and under-eye bags. While trying to cover them up with makeup tricks is a temporary fix, these dark circles will not resolve on their own. Use retinol-based eye cream to help thicken the thinning skin around your eyes. Strive for the recommended eight hours of sleep, and sleep on your back to keep your skin free of pressure.
3. Dullness
According to Dr. Alexander, “as we age, our cell-turnover rate slows down. The top layer of the skin becomes dull and we lose our natural glow. To counter dullness, regular exfoliation with glycolic acid will enhance cell turnover and eliminate dry, flaky, dull skin.”
4. Hyperpigmentation
Hyperpigmentation, or commonly referred to as dark spots, is a skin coloration disorder that results in areas of the skin that appear abnormally dark. Hyperpigmentation can affect people of all ethnicities and skin tones. Chemical peels and microdermabrasion treatments are great in-office treatments to help combat this issue.
