The chin plays an important part in the structure of a person’s profile. A chin that is either too small or too large can be out of proportion with the rest of the face.
A small chin can make other features like the nose seem bigger than they really are. And the transition between the lower face and the neck may slope down and inward with a small chin, making the neck look fuller. Conversely, a prominent chin can make the rest of the face appear small and out of balance.
Chin augmentation surgery is a treatment that enhances the size of a small chin, making it more prominent and defined for a nicer jawline and neckline.

Your chin augmentation consultation

At Forefront, we want our patients to be well-informed about the cosmetic procedures they are considering. At your initial consultation, you will meet with your surgeon to discuss your concerns and personal goals. We encourage you to bring in images showing chin shapes you like and dislike. After an examination, the surgeon will offer options for how to achieve the look you want.
Like any surgical procedure, chin augmentation surgery is not without risks. The surgeon will explain any possible complications or adverse effects that may occur.
Choosing a surgeon for your chin augmentation is an intensely personal decision. You will be allowed ample time to ask questions about what to expect before, during, and after the procedure, so you are comfortable with your decision.

What to expect with chin augmentation surgery

In a chin augmentation procedure, a chin implant is used to reshape the face. The surgeon makes an incision inside the mouth and creates a small pocket under the skin over the most prominent portion of the chin. An implant is then placed into the pocket, increasing the projection of the chin. Because the incisions are inside the lower lip, there will be no visible scars.
Chin augmentation surgery takes approximately one hour and is performed with general anesthesia. You can return home the same day, but you will be drowsy. You will need someone to drive you home and stay with you for 24 hours after surgery.

Recovery after chin augmentation

For the first seven to ten days after chin augmentation surgery, we recommend rest to allow the healing process to begin. Most people are able to resume regular activities and go back to work after that. Strenuous activity should be avoided for four to six weeks.
