What is a “facelift”?
One of the most popular plastic surgery treatment options is the facelift. A facelift and/or neck lift can restore a more youthful appearance and last many years. Facelift and neck lift procedures are frequently performed to revitalize the midface, lower face, and neck.
A facelift (rhytidectomy) is a surgical procedure designed to lift and tighten facial tissues, smoothing out wrinkles and sagging skin. When combined with a neck lift (platysmaplasty), it enhances the contours of the jowls, mouth, and neck for a more balanced and rejuvenated appearance.
At Forefront, our board-certified practitioners specialize in creating natural, long-lasting results with reduced downtime. At your consultation, your provider will carefully assess your concerns and recommend a facelift, neck lift, or a combination of both to achieve your desired look.
How long does facelift surgery last?
A facelift typically takes 2-4 hours, depending on the client’s treatment plan.
Who is a good candidate for a facelift?
Facelift and necklift candidates are typically 40-65 years of age who want to address signs of aging in their skin. They may notice deep wrinkles or loose skin around the neck and jowls and/or lines around the mouth.
Patients who are most concerned about changes in the lower face may be candidates for a modified version of the facelift that is often referred to as a mini facelift, or lower facelift. For mid-face rejuvenation, a cheek lift may be an option.
How much does a facelift cost?
The price of your facelift or neck lift will depend on the techniques required to resolve your concerns, the total surgery time, and whether you combine your facelift and/or neck lift with additional procedures. All costs associated with your treatment will be reviewed with you prior to scheduling your surgery.
What are realistic expectations for facelift results?
Face and neck lifts are effective for rejuvenating the lower face, addressing concerns such as smile lines, sagging cheeks or jowls, and loose skin around the neck. These improvements can create a smoother, more youthful appearance.
However, facelifts do not significantly address signs of aging in the upper face. For concerns like drooping eyelids, forehead wrinkles, or fine lines around the eyes, procedures such as upper and lower eyelid surgery, a brow lift, or laser skin resurfacing may be recommended in combination with a facelift for more comprehensive results.
How long does it take for a patient to recover from a facelift?
Swelling and bruising are common after facelift and neck lift procedures, with recovery times varying from patient to patient. Pain levels are typically mild to moderate during the first 24 hours post-surgery. The patient can return home after the procedure and will be assisted by an overnight nurse.
Patients can resume light activities within a week but should avoid strenuous exercise until cleared by their surgeon. Once sutures are removed, usually after one week, moderate activity can gradually be reintroduced as the healing process continues.
Full recovery typically takes 4-6 weeks.
What is rhinoplasty?
Another common cosmetic surgery performed by our board-certified surgeons is the nose job, which can be either rhinoplasty or septoplasty. While rhinoplasty is for reconstructing the outer shape of the nose, septoplasty focuses on the septum and inner nose. Both types of nose jobs reshape the nose, while septoplasty can additionally treat certain types of breathing problems. For this reason, insurance companies may cover all or a portion of a septoplasty procedure.
How long does a rhinoplasty/septoplasty usually take to perform?
A nose job surgery typically lasts 1-4 hours depending on the complexity of the procedure and whether both the inside and outside of the nose are being corrected.
How do you perform a rhinoplasty/septoplasty?
On the day of surgery, the patient is placed under anesthesia to ensure a comfortable and pain-free experience. During the procedure, the surgeon may use one of two approaches: closed rhinoplasty, where incisions are made inside the nostrils, or open rhinoplasty, where the skin is gently lifted off the cartilage via a small incision on the underside of the nose.
The closed technique typically results in less swelling and a shorter recovery time but is better suited for patients requiring adjustments to the nasal bridge or minor refinements. The open technique provides greater access and visibility, making it the preferred choice for reshaping or resizing the tip of the nose.
Your Forefront provider will discuss the pros and cons of each approach based on your goals.
Who is a good candidate for rhinoplasty/septoplasty?
Most patients seek changes to the appearance of their nose in their 20s or 30s. Ideal candidates have concerns such as a bump on the nasal bridge, a drooping or bulbous tip, asymmetry, or breathing difficulties caused by structural issues like a deviated septum. Patients should be in good overall health, and non-smokers are preferred to support optimal healing.
A consultation with a qualified, board-certified surgeon is essential to determine if rhinoplasty is the right choice. Our goal is to ensure that you achieve the best possible results! After your consultation, we will provide you with detailed images of the proposed changes so that you have ample time to review the adjustments and confirm that they are exactly what you want.
How long does it take for a patient to recover from a rhinoplasty/septoplasty?
After a 24-hour follow up in the office, your surgeon will see you in one week to remove the bandaging from the nose. Follow up visits will be scheduled for one, six, and 12 months after surgery.
Bruising may occur during the first several days after the procedure. The patient can resume most activities after a week, with swelling fully subsiding after 3-6 months.
As the swelling goes down, the nose begins to reveal its refined shape. Full results are visible in a year.
