What is a thigh lift?

Thigh lift is a plastic surgery procedure that reshapes and contours the thighs by removing excess fat and skin. This procedure is often performed after significant weight loss and serves to re-contour the thighs. This area of the body can be especially resistant to diet and exercise, leaving localized pockets of fat that refuse to budge.

The surgery is best performed on people who are close to their ideal weight. The result of a thigh lift is smaller, firmer thighs, but it is not a substitute for weight loss.

Your thigh lift starts with a consultation

Before undergoing a thigh lift, you will have a consultation with our experts to discuss your personal goals, the results you can expect, the processes of preparing for the surgery, and the recovery period. This is also a good time to bring up any concerns or questions you may have. Your surgeon will then perform an examination in order to better assess what can be accomplished.

Choosing a surgeon is an intensely personal decision. We encourage you to ask questions of our team. We want you to feel comfortable with us and your decision to have surgery at our office.

What is thigh lift surgery like?

Your surgeon will customize your surgical plan based on your anatomy and the results you want. Incisions are usually made in the groin area where they can remain hidden. In more extensive cases, an incision might be necessary for a more visible part of the thigh. If your surgeon feels this is necessary to provide you with your desired outcome, they will let you know before your surgery. They will always do their best to keep scarring to a minimum.

After the incisions are made, liposuction may be performed to suction out excess fatty tissue from the inner and/or outer thighs. Excess skin is then removed, and the incisions are sutured. The surgery is usually performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia in our accredited surgery center.

Recovering from a thigh lift

You should take two weeks off from work after your surgery and restrict your activity for six to eight weeks. The recovery period involves some bruising, soreness, and swelling. You can take pain medication to manage any discomfort. Some mild residual swelling will remain for a few weeks to months.

You will be fitted with a compression garment for a period of weeks, intended to aid in swelling reduction and promote faster healing.

If your sutures were not dissolvable, the clinical staff will remove them during a post-surgical examination and will monitor your progress carefully to make sure you are healing properly.
