Surgical and non-surgical methods of cheek augmentation
Dermal fillers and fat injections are two non-surgical options that can add volume to cheeks. These non- and minimally invasive procedures are done without making incisions.
A facelift, on the other hand, involves surgery. It too can improve the volume over the cheeks as the tissues are restored to their original, youthful position on the face.
Which cheek augmentation is right for you?

The cheek augmentation procedure and recovery
The details, timeframe, and recovery for your cheek augmentation will depend on the method chosen. Your surgeon will provide you with full pre- and post-operative instructions. If you receive sutures, they will be removed during a follow-up visit.
Dermal fillers
The procedure for dermal fillers involves injecting a gel-like substance (most often hyaluronic acid) into the cheek area. This can be done in a Forefront office and takes a short amount of time.
After getting dermal fillers, you can expect some mild swelling, bruising, and tenderness at the injection sites. Other than that, they require no recovery period.
On average, dermal fillers last from nine months to two years.
Fat injections
Fat injections are also done at a Forefront office. This procedure involves two steps. First, fat cells are removed from another part of the body using liposuction. Those cells are then injected into the cheek area.
Recovery after fat injections takes one to two weeks. It is best, however, for patients to avoid strenuous activity for about four weeks following liposuction/fat injections.
The results of fat injections tend to last two years or more, longer than dermal fillers.
Facelift
In a facelift, the surgeon will make inconspicuous incisions near the ear and hairline, then reposition fat, muscle, and soft tissue. The skin is then gently smoothed and tightened, restoring a more youthful contour. Facelift surgery is performed with anesthesia and can take several hours. You can read more about facelifts here.
After a facelift, patients should take it easy for about 10 to 14 days to allow healing. Most people can resume regular activities in two weeks. It is best to wait about four weeks post-op to exercise or do any strenuous physical activity.
The results of a facelift can provide a more youthful appearance to the lower two-thirds of your face that lasts on average about 10 to 15 years.
