Tattoo Removal
Tattoos can be a unique form of self expression. But, sadly, about 1 in 4 people regret getting at least one of their tattoos. If you have regrets about a tattoo that no longer fits your lifestyle, Tattoo Removal is a safe and effective option. Using advanced procedures, Forefront providers can partially or completely remove unwanted tattoos.
How does tattoo removal work ?
There are several options for removing tattoos non-surgically.
Laser removal targets the ink with highly concentrated light that breaks the ink into tiny fragments that are cleared by the patient’s immune system. Forefront uses technologies such as PicoWay Laser and Q-Switched ND YAG, both of which work by breaking up pigment in the skin.
Another option is Intense pulsed light therapy, or IPL. It’s similar to laser tattoo removal, but it uses a different type of light energy to break down ink pigments. IPL may require more treatments because it is less focused and powerful than a laser. The number of treatments you may need depends on factors such as the size and color of the tattoo and what type of ink was used.
REQUEST NOWIs it possible to remove every tattoo color?
Black tattoo pigment is the easiest color to remove because it absorbs all laser wavelengths. Other colors require different types of lasers and may take more sessions to remove. Some may not disappear completely. Your provider will discuss a treatment plan for approaching colored tattoos.
What is a tattoo removal session like?
To protect your eyes from the laser, your provider will give you protective eyewear.
Some patients say tattoo removal can feel like a rubber band snapping against the skin. To minimize this discomfort, your provider will offer to numb your skin with a topical anesthetic. Then, they will place the laser over the unwanted tattoo. The pulse’s energy will break apart the ink into smaller fragments, which will be cleared away by your lymphatic symptom.
Most tattoos require multiple sessions (typically 6-12) that are 15-30 minutes each.
What results can be expected after tattoo removal?
Once the ink fragments are broken up and cleared by your immune system, the tattoo will be completely gone. The affected area will be puffy, red, and itchy following removal, and is likely to be that way for a week or so.
For the first two days after the procedure, it’s important to:
- Avoid physical activity that could make you sweat
- Avoid steaming hot showers
- Stay hydrated to help your system flush out ink pigment
- Soothe the treatment area with ice to relieve swelling and discomfort
- Apply an ointment such as Aquaphor to help restore damaged skin cells
You don’t have to live with embarrassing or unwanted tattoos. When you’re ready to discuss non-surgical options for tattoo removal, contact a Forefront location near you.
