Irene J. Vergilis-Kalner, MD, FAAD, FACMS

Irene J. Vergilis-Kalner, M.D. is widely recognized for her expertise and innovative work with skin lasers, cosmetic dermatology, facial rejuvenation techniques, and Mohs micrographic surgery.  Dr. Vergilis-Kalner is board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology who has treated patients and taught doctors in the use of the cutting-edge technologies and surgery treatments.  Under her direction, Skin Cancer and Aesthetic Surgery Center has been a pioneer in making skin laser and cosmetic dermatology technologies and Mohs micrographic surgery available to the public.

Dr. Vergilis-Kalner received her medical degree with highest honors from the Boston University School of Medicine. Prior to her residency in dermatology, she completed a dermatology research fellowship at the New York University School of Medicine. Dr. Vergilis-Kalner then did her internship in internal medicine at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She finished her training in dermatology at the University of Chicago Medical Center, one of the nation’s top dermatology residency programs. Dr. Vergilis-Kalner went on to complete a one-year fellowship in Mohs micrographic surgery and Procedural dermatology for the treatment of skin cancers and dermatologic laser and cosmetic surgery at the DermSurgery Associates, affiliated with Weill Cornell Medical College and Methodist Hospital, under the direction of Dr. Leonard H. Goldberg, an internationally recognized leader in the field. She is a Director of Mohs and cosmetic surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

She has been invited to give lectures at the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, and at other national and international societies. Dr. Vergilis-Kalner has received multiple awards for her basic science and clinical research, and has co-authored numerous published peer-reviewed articles and has contributed to multiple academic textbooks. She also currently serves as an editor for a prestigious dermatology journal.

Dr. Vergilis-Kalner’s special interests include Mohs surgery for treatment of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers and facial reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. In addition, she has extensive experience in the laser treatments for sun damaged and aging skin, pigmentary disorders, skin tightening procedures, treatment of stretch marks, leg veins, acne, hair and tattoo removal. Dr. Vergilis-Kalner also has expertise with variety of injectables for relaxing facial muscles, filling in wrinkles, and facial sculpting, including Botox, Restylane, Juvederm, Perlane, Radiesse, and Sculptra.
