How to Avoid Razor Bumps

Razor bumps are a pesky result of improper shaving. Here are our top 4 tips to avoid razor bumps.

Tip 1: Shave with the Grain

One of the biggest causes of razor bumps is shaving against the grain. You need to shave in the same direction that the hair grows – always, no exceptions. This will reduce razor bumps dramatically.

Tip 2: Never Dry Shave

Dry shaving increases the odds of developing razor bumps and ingrown hair. Always wet the hair you want to shave. By doing so, the hair softens and prevents bumps from forming.

Tip 3: Always use a shaving gel or cream

Shaving without a gel or cream can be very irritating to the skin and ultimately lead to razor bumps. Look for a gel or cream that matches your skin type. If you have sensitive skin, find one specifically made for sensitive skin. Some gels and creams also contain aloe or oatmeal as an ingredient which will help protect and moisturize your skin while shaving.

Tip 4: Rinse your razor often

Allowing your razor to build up hair while you continue to shave is an easy way to develop irritation and razor bumps. Rinse after every stroke to clean out the blades. If you use disposable razors, only use them one time and then dispose of them.
