Joseph Hanson, MD, FAAD

Dr. Joseph Hanson joined the staff of Tennessee River Dermatology in 2004. He specializes in cutaneous surgery, cosmetic dermatology and management and treatment of inflammatory dermatoses.

Dr. Hanson graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of North Alabama, where he was awarded the Academic Achievement Award in General Biology. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. He performed his internship at Baptist Health System in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Hanson completed his residency at the University of Tennessee at Memphis Dermatology Program. He is licensed to practice medicine in Alabama.

Dr. Hanson is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology. He has been involved in dermatologic research and has been published.

I've been seeing Dr. Hanson for almost 2 years but I've been dealing with skin cancer for over 10 years, so I was nervous about meeting a new doctor, but Dr. Hanson and his staff had me at ease and was very kind as well as professional. When I had a spot come up that had me scared this past year, called his nurse, and she got me in right away. Blue light therapy was scheduled, so my mind was put at ease right away. My husband also sees him and likes him as well...and thankfully they caught his skin cancer as well. Recently, I've had to go back due to another skin cancer issue and while worried about this one even more. Everyone made me feel welcome and made sure I felt OK before leaving and that I understood what I needed to do at home. Dr. Hanson came in to do the procedure and he, in my opinion, has a calming effect. He also made sure I knew what was going to happen and why. He is the best! I have just recently been to see Dr. Hanson, and as always he is professional yet kind. Awesome doctor! I recommend Dr. Hanson to anyone needing help in the skin dept. Everyone on his staff are wonderful.

Nice doctor — seemed very competent and professional (even though unable to specifically diagnose my skin condition). My only complaint was that he appeared to be in a big hurry, and I had to question him about specific issues as he appeared ready to leave. The office staff and nurses were particularly nice and helpful.
