Fellowship-Trained Mohs Surgeon
Padman Menon, MD, FAAD, FACMS
Dr. Menon’s Dermatology career began in the United States Navy where he was assigned to Naval Regional Medical Center, Portsmouth, VA. He became staff dermatologist and also served as the department head. He expanded the range of services provided by instituting the surgical clinic and case log and organizing the annual skin cancer screening project in conjunction with the American Academy of Dermatology.
Dr. Menon was the first in Naval Medicine to implement a comprehensive melanoma follow-up clinic. He promoted research and participated in the National Cancer Institute’s six year program and study of the chemoprevention of skin cancer. His experience in operational medicine includes deployment aboard the first modern naval hospital ship, the USNS Mercy during her maiden cruise and subsequent assignment to the Philippines and South Pacific for humanitarian service in 1987.
He served in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm at the Fleet Hospital Five in 1990-1991, where he established and led the Dermatology Department. Dr Menon holds the academic appointment of Associate Professor at the Eastern Virginia School of Medicine and the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C.In 1994; he was selected for additional training in Mohs’ micrographic surgery and completed his fellowship at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX in 1995.
In 1997, Dr Menon returned to Naval Regional Medical Center and started the first Mohs’ surgery program ever instituted at this command.
Shortly after his retirement as a Captain from the US Navy, Dr. Menon joined Tompkins Dermatology as a highly experienced Dermatologist and Mohs’ Surgeon. He has excelled as a great teacher, lecturer, clinician, and a dermatologic surgeon.
He is married with one daughter and one son; he loves to spend his free time gardening.
