Ally-Khan Somani, MD
Dr. Ally-Khan Somani is a double board-certified dermatologist and micrographic surgeon. He graduated from McGill University, received his MD/PhD with honors from the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine, and an Executive MBA from the Quantic School of Business and Technology. Dr. Somani completed an academic track dermatology residency at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Afterward, he became a fellow in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology (MSDO) at the Dermatology & Plastic Surgery Institute in the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic. During his fellowship, Dr. Somani received advanced training under the directorship of Dr. Philip Bailin, an internationally regarded Mohs surgeon and one of Dr. Frederick Mohs’ original trainees in all phases of dermatologic surgery, including Mohs surgery and advanced facial reconstruction, excisional surgery, dermabrasion, cryosurgery, and laser surgery.
Dr. Somani has been consistently productive in academia, publishing numerous impactful, peer-reviewed research articles within scientific journals and several book chapters throughout his career. Additionally, he’s given and continues to give numerous lectures to dermatologic surgeons (both nationally and internationally) on the topics of skin cancer, Mohs, and reconstructive surgery. His clinical practice is focused on treating skin cancers using Mohs micrographic surgery followed by reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Somani spent 13 years on faculty at the Indiana University School of Medicine as a Director of Dermatologic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology Division. He developed a nationally and internationally recognized, highly competitive one-year fellowship training program in Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology. As the Fellowship director, he has trained dermatologists from across the nation and internationally. He now continues to serve as an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor in the Departments of Dermatology and Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
Dr. Somani is the recipient of multiple research awards and grants, including the Dermatology Foundation Career Development Award in Dermatologic Surgery. His research interests include oncology, wound healing, aging, immunology, and the molecular/genetics and signaling pathways involved in skin cancers. Dr. Somani has performed over 10,000 Mohs procedures, making him one of the most experienced and knowledgeable fellowship-trained Mohs surgeons.
Dr. Somani has served and continues to serve on several National and International Society Boards and committees, including the ISD, ACMS, ICMS, AAD, and ASDS. He also serves as an ad-hoc reviewer for many peer-reviewed journals.
