A few months ago, I was searching online throughout all of Chicagoland for a dermatologist who I could consult specifically about my hair, understood Black hair textures, and was easily accessible to public transit. I originally decided to go see Dr. Ajay Kalias after identifying how his professional experiences might resonate with my need as a client. Most specifically, his specialization in hair, him having conducted his residency at Howard (an HBCU), and even receiving his medical degree in Florida (as a Black person who grew up in the South myself) all really solidified to me his knowledge in hair, and more particularly Black hair. That hunch has shown to be true in practice, as he quickly identified potential options of treatments with respect to my hair texture right after taking time to really get to know me and the concerns I had. Three months later, I find my hair healthier than before and happy to have chosen to see him! It was wonderful to catch up and ensure the continued health of my hair and potential new options. I overall feel so much more confident with the state of my hair than before.

I had a wonderful appointment with Dr. Ajay Kailas. The front desk specialist, the medical assistant (Juliet), and the doctor himself were all extremely professional, efficient, and kind. Each of them carefully and patiently responded to the questions I had for them (on insurance, medication types and timelines, prescription details, appointments, etc.). I especially appreciated the way that Dr. Kailas sought out my perspective on the treatments that have worked / are working for my skin. It was obvious that he trusts and cares for his patients. It was a gift to find a compassionate and knowledgeable doctor who takes Medicaid!
